When you make a leap-over happen, the one to the right slides to the left onto where your mouse is. Then as soon as you move your mouse that one that is now under your mouse does a jump, even though it's not an intentional "mouse over". It's subtle but I think maybe that's what causes it to feel a bit puzzling.

One thing that would make it more perfect: touching them from right to left across the graph still causes the jumps to happen. (This highlights a specific case in which the jump doesn’t happen, but I still expect it to.)
