I can only handle so much mind-blowing per day.
The dimensionality of this is fascinating. My first thought after perusing this a bit: what happens when you are reading a quote which itself quotes something? That thought occurred to me in relation to the Federated Wiki.
There are also interesting overlaps (literally) with this concept and video clips edited together, which themselves typically have “handles” beyond the range used in an edited sequence. The ease of the “I’d like to see a bit more of this” gesture in this prototype is delightful.
(Almost totally unrelated except for the gesture, but I recently noticed in OS X that when Quick Looking a high-res image in Finder, holding Option zooms into the image temporarily. Tapping Option zooms and holds.)
